We all make goals for the new year, but a recent study revealed only eight per cent of us actually stick to our resolutions. So, how do you ensure you actually achieve your promises for the next lap around the sun? Make those goals achievable!

A simple place to start is with your skin. It’s time to shed those dull, old layers from this year and reveal a refreshed and more confident you! Below is a list of our top five skin care goals that will make you feel like a king or a queen in the New Year.

Resolution #1: Protect your skin with SPF+ sun lotion

Summertime often brings a lot of time in the sun on the beach or in the pool, but we tend to forget to slip, slop and slap once the weather cools down. Make sunscreen part of your morning ritual by applying it right after you wake up or brush your teeth. We love Balense UV Defiance SPF 50+ as it is so lightweight and leaves no residue. We finally found a product that is compatible with makeup, water resistant for four hours, protective against harmful UVA/UVB rays and it is paraben-free! asleep on back

Resolution #2: Sleep on your back

Do you like to sleep on your side or with your face down? It may be time to switch to your back to stop the pressure on your face that can cause wrinkles. If you’re starting to see fine lines around your nasal-labial fold, which is the line that runs from your mouth to your nose, rest on your back instead. Sleeping on your back also prevents the skin around your eyes (also known as laughter lines) from forming strong creases. It may take a few days to get comfortable  at first, but you will thank us later for this tip.

Resolution #3: Moisturise, moisturise moisturise!

We cannot emphasize the importance of moisturising your skin more. When your skin cells are hydrated their performance peaks immediately, leading to maximum anti-ageing benefits. According to the British Journal of Dermatology those who use moisturiser develop wrinkles at a fraction of a rate compared to those with dry skin. For example, if you work in an office with the AC cranked up and your face feels a little tight and dull in the afternoon, you probably need to hydrate your skin. Try a spritz or facial mist (don’t worry – it doesn’t ruin your makeup).

face mask resolutions

Resolution #4: De-stress and apply a face mask once a week!

Some of us tend to internalise our stress and deny that things are a little hectic. Unfortunately, this can take a toll on your skin in the form of acne, dull skin or dry patches. Prevent this from happening by applying a face mask every week and look for products filled with a rich source of broad spectrum Vitamin B’s, Pro-Vitamin A, EFA’s and all 18 amino acids. Apply mask as per package directions to nourish your skin for 5 – 15 glorious minutes. Say hello to deep hydration and a reduction in visible redness to reveal a much brighter complexion.

Resolution #5: Try one treatment you have never tried before

Have you always wondered what the fuss was about with Fractional RF? Or do you wonder what it would be like to feel silky smooth and hair-free ‘down there’ with laser hair removal? Don’t be shy, be more adventurous and try a new treatment or treatment area in the New Year and take your skin care game to the next level!
