Don’t let the thought of unwanted body hair stop you from enjoying summer! It’s finally that time of year when we can bust out our best summer outfits and live confidently during these hot summer days. Although there are many myths that you cannot get laser hair removal in the summer… this is not true! You can certainly have laser hair removal during summer, but there are some extra precautions you will need to consider. Here are our expert tips on how to stay laser safe and get the best results for your skin.
Be vigilant about your sun exposure
Laser hair removal will target any pigment on your skin; therefore, you must avoid all sun exposure for the two weeks before your appointment to ensure the safest treatment possible! It is recommended you stay out of the sun for two weeks following your treatment as your skin will be more sensitive than usual. However, this does not mean you need to miss out on the summer fun! Simply cover up, slop on some SPF 50+ sunscreen, and wear a hat and you are all good to go and enjoy the outdoors.
Applying sunscreen after laser hair removal is an absolute must! Following treatment, your skin will be very susceptible to sun damage therefore you should apply appropriate sunscreen regularly post-treatment, even if is cloudy! We recommend using Balense UV Defiance SPF 50+ on the treated area (and everywhere else) to prevent sunburn.
Avoid fake tan
If you’re anything like us. as the weather warms up, you’re more likely to lean towards using fake tan on exposed areas. We get it! Unfortunately fake tan and laser hair removal do not mix. It is important to scrub any remnants of fake tan from your skin before your appointment, as our lasers are attracted to the pigment in tan and have a risk of causing an adverse reaction to your skin. Keep in mind, you only need to remove tan from the treated areas, not your whole body. Your safety is our utmost priority so our technicians will not treat you if they believe you are at risk.
Don’t jump straight in the pool!
Heading to the beach or pool is a great summer activity, however, it is recommended you do not go swimming for the 24-48 hours directly following your treatment. The water contains levels of bacteria and chemicals that may cause irritation to your skin as it will be a little sensitive post-treatment. Once this short time has passed you can go back to enjoying all the summer water activities you love, with silky-smooth skin. Now that you know how to stay laser-safe this summer you can get started on your journey to silky-smooth skin!
