The neck and décolletage are a unique area of skin on the body that often gets forgotten in our everyday skincare routines. If you do remember to massage in some moisturiser, it’s likely you’re using the same product you use on the rest of your body. But what if we told you that the skin on your neck and décolletage is different to the skin on your face and therefore needs special treatment? Well, it’s true – read on to find out why and what you can do to care for it better.
What’s the difference between the skin on our faces vs. the neck and décolletage?
The skin on your neck and décolletage (chest) produces less oil than the skin on your face, making it more delicate and prone to damage. It also receives a high amount of sun exposure, often without the SPF protection we afford to our face, and is therefore one of the first areas on the body to show the premature signs of ageing.
Treatments for your neck and décolletage
There are several treatments that can assist in maintaining or returning a youthful look to the skin on your neck and décolletage, including laser skin rejuvenation for sun spots and pigmentation, Fractional RF skin tightening for fine lines and wrinkles, as well as LED light therapy, extended microdermabrasion and skin peels for a combination of concerns. Another great treatment option is injectable dermal hydrators, which can immediately increase hydration and reduce lines on the neck décolletage, often referred to as “sleep wrinkles”.
Treating common concerns: sun damage
At Australian Skin Clinics we use Candela Lasers for laser skin rejuvenation treatments. This class IV medical-grade device treats conditions such as pigmentation, sun damage and redness by targeting and fragmenting the selected imperfection without causing damage to the surrounding skin tissue. The spots gradually disappear over the course of three to seven days. Ideal for anyone who has spent a little too much time in the sun when they were younger!
Products for superior décolletage skincare
Daily use of an SPF 50+ sunscreen, an active moisturiser and a serum are essential to maintaining healthy skin on your neck and décolletage. Retinol serums, such as the Balense Intensive Retinol Serum, can actually reverse some of the signs of sun damage, just remember that any serum containing Vitamin A should only ever be applied at night. We recommend applying your serum, moisturiser and sunscreen to your hands, as this is another area we often see neglected in people’s skincare regimes!
Treatment timelines for the neck and déc
Depending on the treatment plan prescribed to you by your dermal technician, it is likely you will require treatment every 4-6 weeks for a series of three sessions to see results. We have seen incredible results at Australian Skin Clinics, including dramatic reduction in pigmentation, uneven skin tone, softening of fine lines and wrinkles and just overall rejuvenation.
