Cryotherapy vs Coolsculpting® – you might have heard these terms thrown around, but what’s the difference?

While both treatments use extreme low temperatures to achieve their desired outcome, the purpose and results of cryotherapy and Coolsculpting® are in fact very different. Here we take a cool dive into explaining how each of the treatments work and what you can expect.

What is Cryotherapy?

Cryotherapy is an all-body treatment for joint pain relief such as arthritis and other rheumatoid diseases. It is popular among professional athletes as a repair and recovery treatment.

Cryotherapy

Whole body cryotherapy treatments work by exposing the patient’s skin to controlled levels of liquid nitrogen gas, or very cold air. The treatment typically occurs in a device called a cryochamber or cryosauna.

Some of the wider-known benefits include the lessening of recovery time after a vigorous workout, enhancement of muscular endurance and resistance to fatigue. It has also been said to improve sleep patterns, boost energy levels and promote the release of endorphins.

What is Coolsculpting®?

Coolsculpting® is a non-invasive fat freezing method used for the sole purpose of stubborn fat reduction. The treatment is localised to an area of concern, such as the stomach, hips, thighs, arms or chin.

By generating vacuum suction followed by controlled temperature cooling, the frosty technology selectively cools and destroys fat cells. The body then naturally removes the dead fat cells through its normal elimination process.

Treatments are a safer alternative to liposuction meaning, alongside exercise and a good diet, problem areas can be reduced without going under the knife. With the Coolsculpting® Fat Freezing treatment, clients can expect to see results within 6-12 weeks of their first treatment, with progressive results ongoing after only two to three treatments per area.

As always, we strongly suggest booking in a complimentary consultation at your local Australian Skin Clinics so you can be sure you are choosing the right treatment for the results you are wanting to achieve.
