There’s no denying the romance of a winter wedding. Snow-capped back drops, moody photograph opportunities and the cosiness of it all makes winter a desirable season to tie the knot. Unfortunately, winter weather isn’t as kind to our skin – often leading to a dull, dry or dehydrated complexion. None of which are ideal for your big day, when you want your skin to glow with radiance! Never fear, we have five tips to help prepare your skin for a flawless winter wedding!

Exfoliate regularly

It sounds simple, but regular exfoliation will do wonders for your skin come wintertime. Exfoliation works to slough off dry, dead skin cells to reduce rough patches and flaky areas (not ideal underneath your wedding day makeup!). Home exfoliation once to twice weekly with a product such as Balense Gentle Scrub will keep your skin in tip top shape, along with a monthly microdermabrasion for that deeper cleanse.

Make this diet tweak

A few days before the wedding, tweak your diet to include foods high in omega fatty acids. This might be foods such as avocado, salmon, Brazil nuts or flaxseed. The nutrients contained in these foods reinforce your skin barrier, leaving your skin feeling supple, hydrated and glowing.

Keep those showers short

If you want your skin to be as happy as you are on your big day, keep your showers short and lukewarm in the lead up. Hot showers are a big no-no as they break down lipid skin barriers and cause your skin to become dry and irritated. We also recommend applying moisturiser frequently after exfoliating or showering to nourish the skin and keep it supple.

Don’t skip the SPF

Just because it’s cold outside, doesn’t mean the sun can’t get you! The winter sun can still cause harm to the skin so, whatever the weather, it is always a good idea to wear sunscreen such as the Balense SPF 50+ UV Defiance. When used in combination with your cleansing, exfoliating and moisturising – using a broad spectrum sunscreen will complete your basic home care routine. Just don’t forget to apply to your neck, décolletage, arms and hands – anywhere that is exposed to the sun regularly!

Stay hydrated

We know you’re busy… you’re planning a wedding! But is important to take care of yourself and remember to drink lots of water in the lead up to your big day (and always). Drinking water helps to hydrate your skin from the inside out and will assist in giving you glowing skin when all eyes are on you.
