What is inflammageing and chronoaeging?

Inflammageing refers to a continuous, low-level and asymptomatic inflammatory process associated with ageing. This inflammatory response can gradually cause damage to skin tissues through dehydration, skin matrix weakening, collagen and elastin degradation, skin barrier impairment, and solar lentigo. Chronoageing is intrinsic ageing, it is mainly affected by things inside the body that you can’t see such as hormone levels and the makeup of your cells and proteins. Such ageing process includes diminished or defective synthesis of collagen and elastin in the dermis resulting in skin’s loss of volume, alteration of the skin texture and dry skin.

How does Lumixa work?

Lumixa gel contains a fluorophore with a specific energy profile. The gel is applied to the face and activated underneath blue LED light. This performs a photoconversion which produces a spectrum of Fluorescent Light Energy (FLE). It works to control redness, produce fresh collagen production and enhance the skin’s natural glow.

How does Lumixa differ from LED treatments?

LED uses a single continuous light wavelength. However, Lumixa’s FLE technology covers a range of wavelengths simultaneously. While LED is amazing for the skin, Lumixa works together with the LED light, delivering greater results.

Who is Lumixa suitable for?

Lumixa Skin Normaliser is effective against Inflammageing and its effects which are; dehydration, skin reactivity, dull complexion, etc. It is suitable for all skin types and can be used at any age to combat the first signs of skin ageing thanks to its preventive and corrective action. It can also be used to counteract free radicals and help the skin recover after summer. Lumixa Collagen Booster is effective against the signs and symptoms of chronoageing: fine lines, open pores, loss of density, etc. It can be used as a corrective treatment, improves skin density and provides a plumping effect.

What happens during the treatment session?

During your Lumixa treatment, you’ll wear block-out and protect your eyes from the LED light panels. Your SILK technician will apply the gel to your face and then place the LED light over your face. It’s normal for your face to feel tingling and warmth during your treatment.

Is Lumixa painful? Is it safe?

Lumixa is totally safe! It’s a non-destructive, pain-free treatment. The gel remains on the skin surface and is not absorbed into the skin. Lumixa is non-photosensitising, so the treatment can be used all-year-round.

Is there any downtime?

With no downtime, Lumixa allows you to go back to your daily life straight after the session. Make-up and active products can also be applied to the skin immediately afterwards.

When will I start to see results?

Lumixa treatment involves 5 treatments over 5 weeks. Results vary depending on the treatment protocol and skin condition. Some clients see an improvement in redness after just one single session. However, as Lumixa stimulates the skin’s biological processes, you’ll notice your best results after 12 weeks.

Are there any side effects with Lumixa?

There are very few side effects with Lumixa. In sensitive skin, mild erythema may be observed due to the heat. Clients may experience bronzing of the skin and darkening of freckles and sunspots, which dissipates after the treatment course.

Can I enjoy Lumixa whilst I'm pregnant?

Efficacy and safety of Lumixa is not suitable on pregnant or breastfeeding women. We recommend you consult a doctor if you are considering using Lumixa, if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant during the treatment or are breastfeeding.

Pre + Post Treatment Care

Sun exposure can increase the risk of burning, blistering and pigment changes within the skin, so it is essential to avoid sun exposure or solariums for at least four weeks before treatment and throughout your treatment plan. Ensure the area is free of artificial pigments such as makeup and fake tan on the day of your appointment.

Many liken the feeling after a PicoSure treatment to sunburn when skin is red and hot to the touch. For most clients, this usually subsides in 2-12 hours, but in some cases, it can last up to 48 hours after treatment (should these effects last for longer than 48 hours, please contact your closest clinic).

It is advised to avoid hot showers, baths, pools, spas, steam, sauna and the gym for at least 48 hours post-treatment, this may be extended if the treatment area is still warm or irritated.

How many treatments will I need?

As with all treatments at Australian Skin Clinics, we begin your journey with a free skin consultation where our team of expert technicians will tailor a plan to target your concerns and help you reach your skin goals.

How long until I notice the results?

Most clients notice their skin will feel firmer directly after treatment, with the full effects usually seen approximately 3-5 days later.

Is the treatment painful?

As with most laser treatments, some discomfort will be felt, however, we find most clients tolerate it well, and your technician will regularly check in to see how you are doing. The Zimmer Cooling System is used to cool the treatment area which reduces discomfort.

Can I apply numbing creams before my treatment?

No – Numbing creams or gels are often water-based and create a barrier over the skin (even when removed). This water-based barrier prevents the full effects of the laser from being able to penetrate the target, reducing the results of the treatment.

Is the treatment painful?

As with all laser treatments some very mild discomfort will be felt; however, most clients are able to tolerate the treatment easily. For all tattoo removal treatments, the Zimmer Cooling System will be used to cool the treatment area, which reduces the discomfort felt by the client considerably.

The PicoSure also reduces any client discomfort by over 50% vs traditional Q Switch Nanosecond technology.

Your technician will be able to take the care necessary to ensure you are as comfortable as possible throughout the treatment.

What will my skin look and feel after a treatment?

Immediately after the treatment, the area will feel very similar to sunburn with reddened skin that is hot to touch.

The tattoo may appear slightly raised and frosted (white) in appearance immediately after the laser treatment. This is the skin’s protective mechanism- the laser creates enough of a response in the ink particles that the skin tries to shield itself from further destruction. There may be surrounding skin redness, and there may be some pinpoint bleeding.

For most clients these responses will usually last 2-12hours, but in some cases can last up to 48hours after your treatment. Should you notice these affects for longer than 48hours post treatment, please contact the clinic.
