Get treatment ready with these quick tips

Whether this is your first treatment with us or you’ve been a client for years, we always recommend checking the pre-treatment preparation and post-treatment care instructions for your next treatment.

Our tips will help you get the most out of your treatments and ensure you and your skin are ready to go on appointment day! If you have any further questions before or after treatment, give your clinic a call and one of our friendly experts will be happy to help.

Laser Hair Removal

12 HOURS PRIOR

Shave the treatment area within 12 hours of your appointment time, except for facial areas. If unsure, please contact your clinic.
Avoid applying moisturiser or other products to the treatment area.

3 DAYS PRIOR

Avoid active skincare products containing cosmeceutical
retinol (topical vitamin A) or hydroquinone (whitening creams).

2 WEEKS PRIOR

Avoid sun exposure, solariums and fake tanning. Avoid waxing, plucking, depilatory creams and electrolysis. Cease use of topical prescription retinol.

IMMEDIATELY POST TREATMENT

Hair removal/pigmentation only – Soothe the treated area with cool water, ice packs and apply the recommended product as per your technician’s advice. Apply SPF 50+ sunscreen every 4 hours. Avoid excessive sweating, hot showers, exercise, sauna, spa and swimming, shaving, waxing, plucking and exfoliating. Fraxel only – Sleep elevated for the first night.

3 DAYS POST

Continue to apply the recommended recovery cream and SPF 50+ sunscreen as instructed. Avoid using any active products that contain AHA / BHA or retinol for 3-5 days. Hair removal only – Maintain a good skincare routine with an adequate daily moisturiser.

5 DAYS POST

Gently exfoliate with the recommended microdermal cleansing scrub.

7 DAYS POST

Avoid sun exposure. Apply an SPF 50+ sunscreen throughout the day. Rejuvenation, pigmentation, general redness and Fraxel only – Maintain a good skincare routine with an adequate daily moisturiser.

Consultation

Before beginning your cosmelan® journey, you’ll need to have a complimentary skin consult with one of our trained dermal technicians to assess this treatment is suitable for you.

4 weeks prior to treatment day

You will need to follow the recommended at-home skincare to prepare for the cosmelan® treatment.

Treatment Day

Mask remains on skin for 8-12 hrs.

After this time, remove the mask at home. Moderate erythema and heat to be expected.

24 Hours

Start your after care routine. Moderate erythema, strong heat and moderate swelling.

48 Hours

Strong erythema, moderate heat, swelling and itching, mild flaking.

72 Hours

Mild erythema and heat, strong itching and flaking.

Visit clinic for LED Light Therapy.

1-8 Weeks

Mild erythema, moderate itching and flaking.

Expect to purchase additional aftercare products. Recommended weekly LED treatments in clinic.

2 Weeks Prior

Dermaplaning is an entry level skin treatment and requires no pre-treatment preparation.

Just avoid waxing and sunburn to the treatment area for 2 weeks prior.

Dermaplaning treatments are safe for pregnant and breastfeeding mums.

24 Hours

Avoid heat induced activities, including:
• Steam rooms & saunas
• Swimming pools
• Excessive exercise

Day 1-3

Avoid active skincare ingredients. Use a gentle cleanser, hyaluronic acid, moisturiser and SPF.

Day 3+
Recommence active serums.

Day 7+

Recommence exfoliating skincare.

Fitzpatrick IV+ skin types must be prepped on a tyrosinase inhibitor and SPF for a minimum of 2 weeks prior to minimise post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. We recommend using the Aesthetics Rx Ultimate Serum OR Vitamin C Serum OR the Balense Brightening Serum as your tyrosinase inhibitor.

NOTE: 
The numbing cream is no longer provided with this service. Please consult with your skin technician regarding alternative options.

3 Days Prior

Avoid active skincare products containing cosmeceutical retinol (topical vitamin A) or hydroquinone (whitening creams).

24 Hours

Avoid heat induced activities, including:
• Steam rooms & saunas
• Swimming pools
• Excessive exercise

Day 1-3

  • Topical prescription retinol
3 Days Prior

Cease use of cosmeceutical retinol in the treatment area.

  • Are taking isotretinoin (e.g. Roaccutane)
  • Have eczema or psoriasis in the treatment area
  • Have diabetes, auto-immune disease, epilepsy or vitiligo
  • History of abnormal or keloid scarring
  • Have undergone or are undergoing chemical or radiation therapy
72 Hours

Avoid heat induced activities, including:
• Steam rooms & saunas
• Excessive exercise

Day 1-7

Avoid active skincare ingredients. Use a gentle cleanser, hyaluronic acid, recovery neuro gel and SPF

Day 7+

Avoid exercise and swimming for at least one week after treatment.

Recommence actives and exfoliating skincare.

4 Weeks Prior

Please note any clients from QLD will need a Medical Opinion Letter – Skin Check for this treatment.

No sun exposure for 4 weeks prior to treatment.

2 Weeks Prior

Avoid waxing and sunburn to the treatment area for 2 weeks prior.

Skin must be prepped on a tyrosinase inhibitor and SPF for a minimum of 2 weeks to minimise post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. We recommend using the Aesthetics Rx Ultimate Serum OR Vitamin C Serum OR Balense Brightening Serum as your tyrosinase inhibitor.

Your dermal technician will complete a patch test during your consultation appointment 2 weeks prior to your first treatment appointment to ensure suitability.

Treatment Day

No fake tan in the area.

24 Hours

Avoid heat induced activities, including:

Day 1-3

LED Light Therapy does not require any pre-treatment preparation.

Please note: If you add LED Light Therapy as an add-on to a different skin treatment, please refer to any pre-treatment information for that skin treatment.

LED – Rejuvenate is safe for pregnant or breastfeeding mums.

Nil. You can resume all home skincare immediately following your treatment.

Clients with underlying Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation or Melasma are recommended to be using a tyrosinase inhibitor as part of your skincare routine. We recommend using Aesthetics Rx Ultimate Serum OR Vitamin C Serum OR Balense Brightening Serum as your tyrosinase inhibitor.

If you are using topical acne medications or taking light sensitising medications please advise your dermal technician.

Lumixa is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding mums.

IMMEDIATELY POST TREATMENT

Maximise facial activity for half an hour (such as frowning, raising your eyebrows and squinting).
Avoid lying down horizontal for 4 hours.
Do not have facial treatments, rub or massage the treated area.
You may gently cleanse the area with cotton wool.
Take paracetamol as needed.
Avoid steam rooms, saunas and swimming pools.
Avoid exercise for 24 hours.
Avoid alcohol.

2 WEEKS POST

Visit your aesthetic nurse for a review appointment

7 Days Prior

Avoid chemical peels and microneedling for 7 days prior to treatment.

Consultation

Please advise your aesthetic nurse if you are taking any blood-thinning medications regardless of whether you’re expecting to have a treatment.

Avoid:

  • Make-up for 12 hours
  • Alcohol, aspirin and vigorous exercise for 48 hours
  • sunbathing, extremes of heat or cold, dental procedures and other cosmetic treatments in the same area (including fillers, muscle relaxants, microdermabrasion, chemical peels and laser/ IPL) for 2 weeks post treatment.
  • Fractional RF for 4 weeks post treatment
7 Days Prior

Avoid chemical peels and microneedling for 7 days prior to treatment.

24 Hours Prior
  • Avoid excessive sun exposure

IMMEDIATELY POST TREATMENT

Ice packs can be used after treatment if needed.
Avoid alcohol and painkillers like ibuprofen before and after treatment as they can thin the blood and increase chance of bruising.
Avoid sleeping on your face for 24 hours.
For lips, your aesthetic nurse will advise you on how and when to massage to assist with final result.
LED Light Therapy may be used to help reduce swelling and bruising.

48 HOURS POST

Avoid sun exposure.
Arnica pilules or Hirudoid cream (available from local pharmacy) may help reduce bruising.
Sleep with your head slightly elevated and avoid pressure on the area.
Avoid domestic flights, massaging the treated area, alcohol, and heat induced activities, including:
steam rooms & saunas, swimming pools, excessive exercise

2 WEEKS POST

Avoid international flights. Visit your cosmetic injector for a review appointment.

7 Days Prior

  • Avoid exercise, hot showers, sauna, steam rooms and spas, prolonged sun exposure and excessive alcohol consumption for 48 hours post-treatment.
  • Book a review with your cosmetic injector 2-4 weeks post-treatment
7 Days Prior

All cosmetic injectable treatments require a complimentary consultation with one of our doctors or registered nurses.

Please advise your cosmetic injector if you are taking any blood-thinning medications regardless of whether you’re expecting to have a treatment.

  • Avoid exercise, hot showers, sauna, steam rooms and spas, prolonged sun exposure and excessive alcohol consumption for 48 hours post-treatment.
  • Domestic flights should be avoided for 48 hours post-treatment, and International flights for 2 weeks post-treatment.
  • Area must not be massaged for at least 48 hours.
  • Certain inherent or potential risks include, but not limited to: swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness or areas of hardness in the treated area.
  • Paracetamol can be used for pain relief.
  • Avoid these substances and medications post-treatment: alcohol and smoking, anti-inflammatory medications.
  • Book a review with your cosmetic injector 2-4 weeks post-treatment
2 WEEKS PRIOR

Avoid laser hair removal, IPL, or waxing treatment to the area. For CoolSculpting® on the chin only, please avoid injectables for the face and neck.

DAY OF TREATMENT

Come hydrated and eat prior

Clients may experience redness and firmness in the area for a few hours following treatment. Some transient blanching and/or mild bruising may present around the edges of the treatment area. Some tingling and stinging may also be experienced. Clients can resume normal activities. Light exercise, such as walking is recommended on the day of treatment. Heavy gym workouts are not recommended. Increase water intake to help flush toxins out of the body for up to 3 days. Constant hydration is important. Compression garments can be worn in the treatment area.
